I joined Associated Content in October 2008. I have to admit, while others claim great success with this site, unfortunately I haven't had the same kind of luck.
I am sure that this has a lot to do with the types of articles I prefer to write, which are more evergreen in content and not very hot search properties.
I have however found a benefit from Associated Content that personally works for me and I pretty much use it on a daily basis.
Associated Content pays for articles upfront and this helps bring in a few extra dollars every month.
The trick with Associated is that you need to submit original material to them first if you want to receive an upfront payment.
So what I will usually do (as long as I am doing the research anyway) is to write two (or even 3) different versions of an article and start by submitted it to Associated Content first.
With Associated you have the option to make an article exclusive (for a slightly higher payment) or to submit it to them first while retaining the rights to place your work on other sites (which is what I always do - I found the exclusive payment is not that much more).
After Associated has paid for your article, (if it is not exclusive) you can then (after a small waiting period) tweak your article and submit it to other sites such as Helium and Ehow.
This way if I write an article such as "Different Ways To Get Ink Stains Out of Carpets" I get paid by Associated first and then alter the article to fit a site like Ehow by making it a step-by-step process.
So basically I get paid by Associated when I first write the article and then get paid anytime someone clicks on an ad when it is up on Ehow.
Associated Content also pays you on a monthly basis according to how many page views your article has gotten that month.
For beginner writers on the site they pay $1.10 for every thousand views that your article receives.
So if you write highly sought after articles this could possibly add up to some decent money. As I said before though, due to the nature of my subject matters, I usually only bring in about $10.00 - $12.00 a month on average from PPV (pay per veiws).
The upfront payments however, I have found can add up when I am on a writing roll.
My goal eventually is to write at least 3 articles a day along with building my Google Sniper sites.
While not every article I write gets accepted by Associated, I have to say approximately 90% of them do. I usually average about $3.50 to $4.00 per article (other writers definitely make more) but multiply that by 90 articles a month and we are talking about another possible $300 a month just in upfront payments from Associated. This does not count PPV's or the extra money I make when I alter the article for Ehow or Helium.
So while I am not exactly making a fortune, it can add up to some nice pocket change at the end of the month when you combine all of the different ways I have used one article.
My Past Associated Content Earnings
So far in 2009 I have earned $70.37 in PPV's and $492.00 in upfront payments (and that is with only writing about 10 to 12 articles a month).
If I can really do my 3 articles a day that will obviously increase significantly, so if writing articles is your thing, it might be something to look into for yourself.
